Household waste recycling centres

The Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) are operated by Lancashire County Council (LCC).

There are 15 recycling centres across Lancashire where householders can recycle their rubbish.

There is one site in South Ribble on Flensburg Way in Farington.

Farington recycling centre's opening hours are 9am - 5pm all year round.

The site is only closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

The recycling centres operate an Access Policy and Permit Scheme which restricts use of the sites by certain large vehicles and trailers. This policy helps to increase safety and reduce congestion at the sites. Please also remember that the recycling centres do not accept trade waste of any description.

See Lancashire County Council information on waste and recycling or call 0300 123 6781 for more information.

Asbestos

Materials containing asbestos are hazardous waste and need to be appropriately and legally disposed of.

Asbestos should never be mixed with normal household waste.

Disposing of asbestos in this way poses a serious threat to the health of those who come into contact with the waste after it has been collected from your doorstep. In Lancashire this includes the people working in the waste recovery parks at Farington and Thornton, as well as the operatives who empty your bin.

Asbestos should always be disposed of at the household waste recycling centre, properly wrapped and sealed, or collected by a properly licensed contractor.

Further information and advice about asbestos is available from Lancashire County Council.
