Come to South Ribble for a weekend fit for the 'Queen' this Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday!

The Jubilee Bank Holiday is a four-day celebration to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee, 70 years of service from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.

South Ribble Borough Council have been preparing events and activities for residents to mark the momentous occasion.

Councillor Paul Foster, Leader of South Ribble Borough Council, said: "We are delighted to have so many events organised to celebrate such a momentous occasion in our history.

"Please come along, get together and celebrate as a community with us!".

The first day of the weekend, Thursday 2 June, will see two incredible events. The much-loved Leyland Festival is back from 11am with the festival parade, live music, family entertainment, a Jubilee Garden, brilliant food and drink options and much more. See what's on at www.leylandfestival.co.uk.

The Jubilee Beacon will then be lit in the evening at 9.30pm at the Lostock Hall War Memorial*. More than 2,022 Beacons will be lit across the world to recognise the Queens long and selfless service. The beacon lighting will also be live streamed on the South Ribble Borough Council Facebook page.

We're back to the 80s on Friday 3 June with the icons from the decade heading to Worden Park for a night of nostalgia at Music In The Park. You won't want to miss performances from Tony Hadley, T'Pau, Go West, Heaven 17, Pat Sharp and Doctor and the Medics!

Community events will also take place across the borough. The council have issued 60 funding grants to support community groups and parishes to throw their own celebrations.

Red, white and blue flowers have also been planted across the borough to mark the Jubilee. Keep your eyes out for a crown design flower bed on Worden Park soon as our Neighbourhoods team have been preparing for the beautiful display.
